Emily lives and works
in Totnes, South Devon.
She paints traditional
Buddhist thangkas - images that reflect different positive qualities
of the human mind - alongside contemporary pieces which unite
tradition with the modern world, exploring new territories.
When commissioned
she works closely with the patron, gradually building a thangka
as an assembly of personal reflections which are then grounded
in traditional iconography, and displays them in symbolic form
related to the specific deity/deities chosen.
She regards the production
of a thangka as part of a devotional practice and as an opportunity
to keep the tradition and the rich symbolism involved alive.
Emily really likes
to talk about her creations and feels that art is an organic
process for everyone to engage in. Her workshops focus on change
in the community through nurture of the individual - inciting
and enticing the Buddha within.
